Once Upon a Pause: 365ideas4change Number 31

We’re all terribly busy. I think its something of a status symbol at times. I heard it once wonderfully described as “competitive stress syndrome”.

What happens in our busyness is unmediated, ill-considered and inconsiderate reactions. We hurt relationships, we make poorly informed decisions, we alienate ourselves.

The idea today is pause. If I feel upset by something someone does or says, before I respond, pause for 10 seconds. If I’m feeling overly pressured to take a spot-decision, pause for 10 seconds. If the dog chews the corner of the couch, pause for 10 seconds. If I’m about to make a sarcastic comment, pause for 10 seconds. If I’m about to criticise someone, including myself, pause for 10 seconds. If I’m about to spend money that I don’t have, on something I don’t really need, pause for 10 seconds.

I wonder how many pause-minutes I’d collect in one day?
