Appreciating Power: 365ideas4change Number 74

We had a sub-station fire that wiped out power to a huge area yesterday. The electricity supply to my area has not been restored more than 36 hours later. Like a good little environmental girl I have a solar charger, but, well, I hadn’t charged it. And it was overcast today (sheepish smiley). Cellphone gone, laptop battery drained, iPad on 3%.

I have heard word that power will not be restored for possibly 4 days. I am amused by my utter dependency on electronic gear, even though I am so not a modern techie. My use of social media is pretty much restricted to this blog. I send the occasional Whatsapp to check on my animals, or make arrangements with a friend – but I’m more likely to call them. And yet, here I am, facing a mountain of work, and I can’t do anything. So I’ve gone elsewhere, and my blog is coming to you courtesy of a lovely mountain-side.

If you have power wherever you are today, enjoy it, respect it, use it judiciously, and remember from whence it comes….oh yes, electricity too.
